Franklin Pierce College, also known as simply Franklin Pierce, is a private college located in rural Rindge, New Hampshire. The school was founded as Franklin Pierce College in 1962. It combined coursework with the liberal arts foundation for professional preparation. The college has an average enrollment of just over 1,300 students. The main campus overlooks Pearly Pond, and it is located just a few miles from Mount Monadnock. The campus today covers over 1,200 acres of land.
Franklin Pierce also has Graduate & Professional Studies centers in Portsmouth,Manchester, and New Hampshire, Lebanon, as well as a center in Goodyear, Arizona. There are also several courses that are offered online. The school was established in 1962 as Franklin Pierce College. The school opened its doors to its first batch of students in 1963. The school was named after Franklin Pierce, the 14th president of the United States and the only U.S. president that hails from New Hampshire. The school expanded in the 80’s, with the biggest espansion being the Emily Flint Campus being build in 1986.
In 1988, more residence halls were added along with apartment-type residences. During the 1990’s, Northwoods residences were built for more apartments replacing trailers. In 1998, Cheshire Hall was built with suite style apartments. In 2002, a library building was added on the new floor and was named the Fitzwater Communication Center. In 2007, the school changed its name Franklin Pierce University.
Franklin Pierce offers 17 varsity sports and the school competes at the NCAA Division II level events. The school competes in the Northeast-10 Conference. The school competes in the following sports: field hockey, volleyball, soccer, cross country, golf, tennis, ice hockey, basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse and rowing. The school also offers rugby at the club level, with both of their programs recognized by the NERFU.
